Industrial design and patents
New industrially applicable characteristics of a product or process represent inventions that, protected by patent law, become an exceptional value. The right of industrial design protects the innovative shape of a product. Both patent and industrial design are rights of monopolistic nature and exclude other people from using the values protected under these rights. However, the holder of these rights beside of own use of the rights, is authorised to grant them to others through licensing and can thus achieve additional economic effects.
